The Best Colors for Beginner Watercolors
Where do you even START with a color palette?? In this video I'm going to share my experience and what colors I think are most valuable for a beginner. We'll talk through the exact colors that I am going to be using for this beginner series (based off of a few popular Windsor and Newton kits) and the kit that I would purchase for myself if ALL of my paints suddenly disappeared!
While this list doesn’t include all of my absolute favorite colors, I did throw in two of my staples that I think should be in every kit and was honestly a little appaled when I wasn’t finding it in some popular kits! Who knew that artists could be so different?! hahaha
But this shouldn’t alarm you! It should encourage you that there isn’t a “wrong” answer. Long ago I was thrilled to purchase “Opera Pink”, because another artist that I followed and admired used it so much. I think I’ve used it… twice? It’s beautiful! Just not for me, for the style of work that I do or even for my personal tastes. Perfect for the other artist, but not great for me—and that’s okay!
My hope and prayer is that you will be able to take this list and adjust it according to your preferences, your personal color palette and the way that you work.
